We have a JD 2010 Gas that my dad bought not running.(Starter was said to be shot) well that was not all that was shot. When we pull started it at the auction I knew right away the motor was history. I have never seen so much blow-by. It has ZIPPO for power. It does burn clean out the exhaust though. Could it be a bigger problem than just the rings. Any insight would be appreciated.

My experience with these engines is that are pretty forgiving and a set of rings and bearings will probably take care of most of your problems. Compression rings are probably wornout from air cleaner hose leakage? or failure to keep air cleaner serviced. Since there is no smoke out the exhaust, hopefully your cylinder s arestill decent. pULL THE ENGINE DOWN FIRST, BEFORE YOU ORDER PARTS. I found a 1010 with a 1020 engine in it a few years ago. 20 more cubes, I believe, as I recall. It had oil running down the exhaust and had nearly zero cylinder wear.
