I carried a tractor over to a guy this evening and after unloading it we were pulling back to his house with his 60 LP. When the engine would start to get under a load or he would throttle up it would act like a gas tractor running out of fuel or having trash in the nozzles. It wouldn't just lug down like a governor but kinda smother out. Started right back up and we pretty much idled it up to the house ok. He said it had plenty of fuel and both the vapor and liquid valves were open. The other tractor was a Oliver 77 so it was around 4100-4200 lbs rolling that the JD was pulling.

Without the load on it and just sitting it will throttle up fine. I am just figureing out gas carbs and don't know diddly about LP ones.

any ideas?

I agree, not only does cold LP not burn well, but it will freeze in the filter and regulator. The regulator has water lines running to it to keep it from freezing, if you switch to liquid before the water starts to warm up, it will freeze.

My JD50LP will do this if I start on vapor and let it idle all the way back to the stop for a minute or 2 before it warms up sometimes. Just barely above idle and it's fine. Maybe you guys switched to liquid too soon. Or, you said you had both lines open, that's the same as switching too soon.

Start it on vapor, then switch to liquid when the water starts to get warm, maybe 5 mins or so. It doesn't have to be up to operating temp, just warm. Or, running on vapor if you forget to switch isn't going to tear anything up, it just may not run as well under load.

Jeff, maybe it was too early to have the liquid valve open. Cold liquid LP doesn't burn worth a darn. Next time try running on vapor only until it warms up more.
