Hi, my Dad needs a question answered if anyone knows. He has a 1953 John Deere Model 70, he read where you can change the head to an All Fuel head and this will increase the ci by 30 or so. Wondering where we can get one, the price and mainly what else is needed to accomplish this...

Thanks for any help.
:)

Changing the cylinder head will not increase the displacement of the engine, it will only change the compression ratio. Displacement can only be increased by increasing the bore and/or stroke. None of this really pertains, because it's also not even possible to install an all-fuel head on a gasonline or LP "70" block, as the bolt patterns are different. Even a .125" overbore will not increase the displacement by 30 cubic inches. He could install an all-fuel block AND head, as they will bolt up to the same main case. This would put his displacment up to 412.5 (same as the "G" and all-fuel "70") from the current 379. That coupled with higher-compression aluminum pistons would increase his horsepower, particularly if he used the later two-barrel carburetor and a cold manifold. Hoever, all-fuel parts for the "70" aren't the easiest to find, as the gasoline versions of this tractor were much more popular.

Hi, thanks for all the info! My Dad was very appreciative (his is gasoline). Would it be worthwhile to plane the original head .125 to increase compression? Difference in fuel consumption? He is trying to find an edge for tractor pulling.

Thanks for any ideas.

Cindy
