Rod bearins went out on 4020. Machine shop says crank already 0.35 under. Can weld up and cut down but not sure how it may hold up. New crank is $$$$. Any one have any experience with this?

Unless the guy who does the the welding is a tool room welder for get it and spend the money. Why take the risk of breaking down again. Or pass the problem on to someone else if you sell the tractor. I guess that is up to you . I worked in a Tool room for 30 years. I have seen some really bad welds. I am not a welder but I did work in a motor shop after engines were tore apart. That is why I say a tool room welder he knows what can be welded or not.

why won't you look for a good used one? cranks from all diesel 404 engines and early 466 should fit.

Don't know of anyone who did it to a Deere but I had two neighbors that welded up IH cranks a DT414 & DT466 and they both went out in less than 1000hrs . One I helped with and that one broke not sure if the other broke but he ended up with a new one . I would advise against welding unledss you are going to get rid of it soon .

jeff welding rod bearings on a farm crank is very unlikely do to breaking and the cost of welding and grinding. It would make a good strocker for a pulling tractor.Good luck FRITZ
