I have this 4020 Powershift early version. I didn't use the powertake off during the year I owned it. I sold the tractor with a guarantee. The buyer brought the tractor back saying the PTO didn't pull well. The dealer looked at it for him saying it would need a transmission front clutch pak and would cost about $3500. Has any one been down this road before? Looks like it may total my tractor out.

Hey John,
I can't say that I would guarantee anything without know if everything worked or not. If it were mine I would just refund him and take the time to get into the tractor when things were maybe in better timing. Or else price the tractor in an as is type deal or take it to a local auction.

It could be a clutch pack issue, but I would definitely get a second opinion before proceeding. Full diagnostics and testing should be done before replacing the clutch pack, and that sounds awful high for a clutch pack, anyway. Do they have it apart so they can see exactly what is wrong? Just because the PTO section of the clutch is bad doesn't necessarily condemn the rest of the clutch pack.

I don't have it apart yet. The lever on the left side of the tractor than engages the PTO is full forward and can be pulled backward but wants to go forward. Maybe there is something wrong with the linkage; maybe a cable is kinked or rusted. I can't imagine why it is forward tho.

That lever on the left side is the Tranmision dis connect clutch for cold weather starting if it is a power shift the PTO lever is on the right side of the dash
