After drilling out broken exhaust manifold stud, I realized I accidently hit the brass push rod sleeve in the head. That's where the water originally was coming from into the base. I replaced all 4 push rod sleeves, put a new head gasket on however I did not soak it in oil like the I.T. Manual said to do. I put everything back together, torqued it and fired her up. I noticed the next morning the water in the radiator had again dropped and the oil was as milky as before. When I installed the push rod sleeves, I pulled them in instead of hitting them in with a hammer at the recomendation of my local JD dealer. Has anyone got any advice on what I may have done wrong or should I have put any type of a sealer on the push rod sleeves or would soaking the head gasket in the oil have made a difference? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mark, while it could be the head gasket leaking. I doubt soaking it in oil would have helped. [I always use a light coat or #3 Permatex on those head gaskets].
~You might want to pull the rocker cover, then re-fill the radiator, then watch the head nuts, push rod tubes & oil return for signs of leaks. [if the tubes or head nuts are leaking it will show].
If nothing noted per above, suspect the head gasket or head]
~I always use Lock-Tite on those push rod tubes & use new lead washers under the head nuts.

I'm pretty sure you can quit worrying about not soaking the head gasket as the cause of the troubles. I would have used silicone rubber to seal those tubes though. But now that the damage has been done, have you thought about some stop leak in the antifreeze as a solution? Best results come from dissolving Bar's leak for example in the antifreeze first before pouring it in as the circulation inside the water jacket isn't the best around.
