How much side to side clearance should there be between the rods and the crankshaft journal? I seem to have alot, maybe .03"+, I have not checked the exact amount yet. This is my first old JD and I am getting ready to start it up, previous owner said it had not run in about a year due to carb problems. Everything else looks good in it.

JR,
Good question - I am unable to find any specs from John Deere regarding the end play. I would assume if the rods fit snugly on the piston pins and are properly adjusted via shim adjustment on the crankshaft that the end play was not a concern to JD.

Perhaps someone with more engine assembly experience will respond, but 0.030" endplay does not seem unreasonable to me, given the proper fits above.
