I have recently rebuilt the governor for my 1944 A and have reconnected the throttle linkage. I have followed all of the I&T instructions for setting the linkage as it relates to the control valve on the top of the carb (the half-hole theory), but it seems that the valve on the carb is extremely sensitive to the slightest movement of the throttle lever. In other words, if I move the throttle the slightest to the forward, the the valve on the carb move a great deal, causing the tractor to rev up too much, too fast. I'm pretty sure that this is why the governor flew apart in the first place. I need to know what to do. I hope I have explained the situation adequately, as I am not a mechanic and have probably used the (technically) incorrect terms. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What number carburetor do you have on your A? If you are sure you have your governor assembled properly, and have a carburetor from a Model D (DLTX16 or 63)on your A, it will not properly govern, as the throttle butterfly action is reversed. You should have a DLTX53 carb on your tractor. This information is cast/stamped on the choke end of the carb, on the side with the load needle.

JKC, I really don't know what to tell you on that governor. You could have any number of problems from the governor arm or spring installed wrong, to the fork installed on the wrong side of the governor bearing, to the throttle linkage mis-adjusted between the governor & carb.
~I would say the place to start is to look at your manual or another tractor & make sure the governor arm & spring are installed correctly. If that part is ok then hold the carb wide open & the hand throttle wide open then set the rod length at the carb top lever to be 1 hole short of going in the lever hole.
~If the problem still exists you will have to verify the governor is assembled correctly & the fork is on the correct side of the thrust bearing & the bearing collar is installed correctly.....

Clooney-is there a rule of thumb on the adjustment of the short rod that goes from the hand throttle lever to the governor spring? Thanks-morgan
