Have a 1530 John Deere. Oil has started coming out around the PTO. Is there a seal that is easy to get to that could be the culprit?

yes, there is a seal in the cover just ahead of the stub.
you sould remove the shaft together with the cover (supported by 3 bolts) after draining the transmission oil.
if it's indipendant pto, there is a splined coupler bushing in front of the pto shaft that may fall to the transmission case bottom when you remove the shaft (a pain!). to minimize chances of this happening, park the tractor front end down on a VERY STEEP incline or raise the back of the tractor safely high in the air before removing the shaft.

Thanks for the info. I got the seal today and will attempt tomorrow. Thanks for the info about the stub shaft also. May save me lots of time!
