'45 A Manifold Questions

Just found a hole in the manifold on the intake side, but not through to the intake stream. Seems to be a double-wall deal where maybe exhaust surrounds the intake side? Have not had this tractor running, but assume this will be major exhaust leak? Part number looks to be 2383R. Is this specifically an 'all fuel' manifold to warm the intake for the use of 'tractor fuel' (keresene?)? Is there more than one manifold for this tractor? Can this be patched or welded? Any help appreciated. Thanks, dwm

Sounds like you have an all fuel manifold. That's why the old tractor has two gas caps -- small tank for starting gas (gasoline) and big tank for fuel (kerosene, fuel oil, horse pee or anything else the thing will run on).
You should be able to have the hole welded or brazed. I would probably at least remove the carb from the manifold before attempting this. The ideal way to do it would be to remove the manifold frm the engine, though. It's not worth blowing yourself up! Safety first.

Thanks Bryan. I've also been reading through the archives this morning, and this must be the original all-fuel manifold. I think it can be fixed up okay. At some point, it's had the outer ear on the exhaust flange brazed. Luckily, the manifold came right off the head. We think this tractor has been apart fairly recent as all the bolts we've worked on have come out no problem. If any would be stuck, these would be the ones. We didn't see this hole until removing the governor and fan shaft yesterday. As we were turning the flywheel, we noticed the fan would turn sometimes, and not others. Turns out there was a snap ring missing on the shaft holding the fan drive gear in place. Sometimes the drive gear would just back up and not engage its mating driven gear on the back of the fan shaft. Another mystery solved!
