Is there any way to repair a babbit bearing without removing the connecting rod and having it rebabbited? #2 connecting rod is loose and I found it's babbit on the bottom of the oil sump.

The journal seems O.K. Was hoping someone out there has made a successful repair for this same problem. Is it possible to use an insert or a bushing of some sort?

Hate to tear down an otherwise good engine for only one connecting rod bearing.

Know nothing about poured babbit bearings, could sure use some pointers.

Thanks Jim H.

Jim, the easiest way is pull the rod & just replace it with a new rod. You can send your rod out & have it re-babbited but those production B rods are cheap as dirt.
~An insert bearing won't fit in your rod without machine work.
~Now..I don't know if this is possible on your B, but I have done it on an A, & that is to pull the piston partially back out the rear of the cylinder & slide the piston pin out, then replace the rod. You will have a hard time getting the rear piston ring back in the bore but a piece of tin & a hose clamp will usually do the trick [a big piston ring compressor is best if you have access to one].
