Can anyone estimate what this costs to replace? Do I need to split the tractor to get it out?

Thanks,

If you are talking about the engine coolant drain plug, then the cylinder head is cracked. The head can be removed without alot of work, the crack welded or brazed and reinstalled. If the head is indeed cracked, have a machine shop check it and pressure test it,to make sure there arenīt more.Check the block and radiator housings, and coolant pipes for cracks also.As a temporary fix, if nothing else is cracked, you might be able to use J-B weld to close up the cracks, just be carefull installing the drain plug as this will tend to open up the crack again if overtightened.

It looks like 2 bolts to take the valve cover off.

Are the valve push rods ok to sit in the block?

I think the head is toast. It has cracked about a 3" radius around the bolt and pulled out about 1/4" away from the head casting where the water tube bolts up.

I would have put it up on a trailer & taken it to a guru here in Central MN but the rear wheels are spaced 84" & my bobcat trlr is 81" between wheel wells. Wheels have not been adjusted in at least 20+ years & are loaded. So, probably less agravation to pull the head myself.

Radiator looks OK but cannot tell for sure because water runs out through the cracked head.

After I pull the head off I should be able to look into the block water jacket.

I bought some JD A huge spark plugs but the ones in there now seem to be normal sized. It looks like the plugs screw into the block, not head.
