Hey lookee what I got!! Went up to the Walnut Iowa antique show and flea market Saturday and found this puller laying on a table. Thought it looked about the right size so took a chance for $15. Got it home and it worked perfectly. Put it on and tightened up the screw, then just a little wigglin' with a prybay behind the flywheel to get it started and it pulled right off! Boy was I tickled! third party image This was the only thing we bought up at the antique show after walking 16 miles through all the stuff and spending the whole day, besides a funnel cake and a Coke. Was a really nice day for a walk tho. Think I'll go into the #5 mower lower seal replacement business as everyone one of them I've seen is leaking : ) Sure is nice to win one every once in awhile.

Great job and bargain for the tool!
I suppose that oil leak is what kept the flywheel from rusting to the shaft after 50 years. Perhaps it is better that the seal leaks? heh heh.
I put a new seal in mine a few years back... it's leaking again because some grass got wrapped up in it. Suppose I'll have to take off the flywheel to clean out the grass under the seal lip.

Jeff,

I just replaced the seal in my #5 but I removed the whole shaft. I'm sure this wasn't the best way but it worked. Would have loved to have a puller instead. Mowed about 10 acres & it's still dry. Nice to have the leak stopped.
