I've just bought the 2440, and want to know what year it is. I'm guessing '76 or 77, but just don't know. The serial # is 293701T. It has less than 1800 hrs, and is in great shape. I bought the condition, rather than the year, but would still like to know. Any help?

I paid way too much. $10,500. The tractor is a good one though. 1780 HRs. No Hi-Low, I wanted to stay away from that. The cost of simple repairs goes through the roof, with the Hi-Low.. It has ROPS/with canopy, 16.9/34 rears that are near new. I passed up a 1980 model for $9000. It was rough, and had 7000 hrs. Someone must have lived on that one, to accumulate so many hours. Good luck with the search, they're stout little tractors. Loads of power in a smaller package. (Sort of like my wife!)

Where can I find the serial number on a 2440 John Deere tractor? I don't mean the engine serial number, I mean the tractor number. Also, what does ROPS stand for? I see the internet lists 2 different dates that the 2440 was manufactured. One date is 76-79, and the other is 80-82. Please HELP!!!
