bought this tractor last fall and just recently installed an aftermarket 3pt. hitch. Powertrol had almost no oil in it and a lof of water. drained all that out and filled with 30W oil. lift will raise fine but leaks down slow with a light implement(such as a grader blade) and leaks down fast with a heavier implement(bush hog, disk). Where should I look first for my trouble? thanks in advance for the help.

Jim, the usual place of the leak-down is the seal on the rockshaft piston. At least that's a real good place to start. In most cases that will get it to hold a load up..

I have the same problem with my 49 B lifting a 5' bush hog mower. My gasket between rocker cylinder and Powertrol main housing blows out when I go over a little bump which jolts the mower upwards a bit. The leather seal is $29 while the gasket is under $10.

I've concluded that those rocker lifts were meant to replace the hand lever used on earlier tractors to raise a 2 row cultivator. Three point hitches and mowers or blades were not meant for the old Deeres.
