Got a 1010 that smokes a little out of the oil breather tube. Before I started, I noticed that there was some gas in the oil. I attribute this to the engine running rich. After runnning it for about 4 hours I saw the smoke starting to come out. Stopped and checked the oil, and the gas had burned off and the oil level was fine. So my question is this, should I be worried about the smoke. I will adjust the carb to correct to the fuel problem. Thanks

Bill,
I also have a 1010 that smokes through the valve cover vent tube. I was told it was blow-by from the cylinders. I checked the compression and it's fine. Mine needs valve seals, it smokes when you first start it up and then stops smoking. I am hoping the seals helps the smoking through the vent tube. I wouldn't worry about the smoking. I have talked to and read about several people who's 1010's smoke this way. Gas in the oil. Mine also had this problem. Mine was the float in the carb. had a hole in it letting gas pour into the carb. go up the manifold and pour into the cylinders and leak down to the oil pan. I changed the float, rebuilt the carb. and ALWAYS shut off the gas when not running and everything is fine. Good luck with your 1010. I really like mine.

Thanks. Yes I too have done the carb rebuild. But I was the one that did it and it was the first one I had ever done. I think the problem I am seeing is the needle gets stuck sometimes and doesn't allow gas into the carb. Then I will recheck the float (making it parallel with the top of the carb when turned upside down) Then proceed mowing etc... It seems that it will work fine for maybe a day or so and then get stuck again. Have any ideas on why it would be getting stuck. BTW I also shut off the gas. Other than these little hiccups she's a great little tractor.
Thanks again
Bill

Bill, The float should be about 1/4 inch from any point on the carb. when you turn it upside down. Turn the fuel screw out 2 turns (big screw), and turn the small screw out 1 turn and the 1010 should run pretty good. You may have to adjust both screws a little once you run her but this will be a good starting point. When you rebuilt the carb did you clean the screen on the carb. where the gas line goes into the carb.? I pulled the gas line off my carb. and the screen inside the carb where the gas line goes into was clogged up. If you take the carb. back off the 1010, when you take it off turn it upside down and right side up to see if you can here the float going up and down. Could have the bowl bolted on a little crooked and making the float stick shut on the side of the bowl.?
Good luck with the 1010. I use mine to mow my 5 acre yard. I use a 6 foot finishing mower. I was using a 8N ford to mow with. The 1010 will put my 8N to shame. More power, live pto, live hydraulics, and power steering, I haven't started the 8N in weeks. Good luck, Rick
