I know this question has probably been answered before, but after looking through the archives for over an hour I've decided to ask again.
Where does the lead washer go on the central cylinder head stud on a 1952 Model B?? This is the stud that the oil lead to the exhaust tappets goes on. Does the lead washer go on first before the oil lead ring or does the oil lead go on and then put the lead washer and nut on?? Also there was a single copper gasket in my gasket kit that fit snugly on the cylinder head studs, does this also go on the oil lead??
Called our JD dealer and they said their books did'nt show how the lead washer went on.
I'd sure like to hear from somebody out there who knows how these lead and copper washers go.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Jim H.

The only single copper washer that comes to mind
is the one that goes on a bolt for the upper water pipe to the block one of them goes into the water jacket I think. I have always put some shellace or permetex on the back of the oil passage washer to seal it to the head and put the lead washers under the nuts
and after torquing down trim off the excess lead. There are two differant washers used for the oil passage depending on which cyl. head you have I have also seen these put on the wrong head.

Mike,----Appreciate the help, unfortunately I had already put the oil passage washer on with a lead washer next to the head. I havn't run the engine yet. Do you think I would be able to remove the nut and oil passage washer, remove the lead washer, seal the oil passage washer with permatex, and then retorque the nut without disturbing the rest of the nuts, OR, do I have to install a new head gasket and start all over??
Don't have any experience with head gaskets so I don't know what I can get away with as far as leaks and such---
Everyone on the archives kept emphasizing sealing off the head stud so I assumed that a lead washer would have to be next to the head. Don't want any combustion leaks or water leaks. can you advise me again.
Thanks Much "AGAIN"
The copper washer does go on the upper water pipe flange on the left front bolt as the bolt does go all the way into the water jacket.
Thanks Much "AGAIN" Jim H
