This is not a question about JD's, but I am in a bit of a bind and need some fast help. My old Wheel Horse riding lawn mower just died the other day...checked it out, no spark at all. Put a new plug in, ran fine. For the heck of it, I put the old plug BACK in, and now it ran fine. I put the new one in, and didnt' use it until a week later. Ran fine for 10 minutes or so, then died. No spark again. Wiggled the plug wire (from the magneto???) and got her going again. 10 minutes later, dead. No spark at all. Is the magneto bad? Or is there some other issue here? I am not real experienced with these small engines, so any help at all would be appreciated. I need to get my lawn mowed tongith! Family coming over to see the new house tomorrow! Thanks guys.

Also look for any wire that may short circuit to ground, especialy the 'kill switch' wire that connects to the ignition coil....good source of temporary headache!

Good Luck!

My first guess would be a bad coil. Sometimes they go bad but work OK until they get hot.

I would check the points inside the mag. You can take a fine grit sand paper and clean the tops of them. Might want to replace the plug wire, could have a bad spot in it. Also where the wire goes into the mag you can use sandpaper and shine up the contact. Hope this helps Brian Nielsen Austin, Tx.
