I have a 1937 "A" with a DLTX 53 carb on it. A listing in Two-Cylinder magazine shows this tractor as having a DLTX 18 carb. The ser. No. of the tractor is 444801. Does anyone know the difference between these carbs? Thanks Much,
John

John,
There are several differences between the 18 and 53 - externally, the 18 was a hand-choke unit while the 53 allowed attachment of a choke control at the dash. Internally, they used different nozzles, economizer plugs, and had some differences in internal passage diameters. They will physically interchange (except for the choke linkage) - it would be easier to use a 53 on an unstyled A than a 18 on a styled A.

Marvel Schebler (in their literature) drives home the point that each carb is designed for a particular engine, and interchange is not recommended. Will you notice a difference in your operation with the 53 than the 18 - probably not a lot - it would depend more on the condition of each carb.
