could be water and could be fuel, colors of smoke are open to interpretation, regardless, is it using coolant? if not, fill the coolant to the top of the radiator and run it cold and see if bubbles start popping up, it would indicate compression leaking into the cooling system, otherwise, if coolant is being lost and no pressure is indicated in the cooling system, could be a leak in a water passage that is not under pressure. if it is fuel, that would explain the black goo -- you can get an electronic thermometer, rev it to 1200, and check each cylinder at the exhaust manifold to see if one has a large differential in temperature, ifso, then swap injectors and see if it moves to the other hole, if it does, replace injector, if it doesn't it is the pump, but there are other tests for that if needed, place bottles on all injectors, crank engine and check amount of fuel in each, if they are not extremely close to each other -- pump-be-gone... scott
