First, I don't know anything about tractor!

I need to repair a JD 1520, 3 cyl., gas(don't know the year or much else) the problem is that it will start up, a little hard but starts and then it sits and idles good as can be. When you go to give it a little gas it sputters and dies almost immediately and if it doesn't die it continues to sputter for a bit then it may idle again or die. It has new plugs and wires, seems to be good spark. Fuel pump? just dirt in fuel system?

Any suggestions are more than wlecome!

did a little work last night, I don't believe my problem is the fuel delivery. The carb appeared good and clean (cleaned it anyway while apart) the lines weren't blocked and it has a new inline filter. The pump pumps but not sure on pressure.

The tractor runs when full choke, and dies when the choke is opened or throttle is opened. any temp. at one time the engine even appeared to run backwards a few revolutioins after turning it off? The air way is open and clear Is this an electrical problem? has new plugs, wires, and the dist. cap looks good?

Like I said, I'm a shadetree mechanic, ANY suggestions are wanted!

Still sounds like a fuel problem. If your tractor has a solenoid fuel shutoff that could be the problem. If I remember correctly unskrew it from the carb and reverse the needle and reinstall. The solenoid opens the fuel flow when the key is turned on. If there is an electrical failure it can be bypassed by reversing the needle. Hope its that simple for your fix. If not, I remember there are some real small ports in the carb that could still be plugged.

Sounds like a fuel problem. Make sure the valve under the tank is open. Check the fuel flow by opening lines between the tank and carburator. Does it run better with the choke open or closed? If it runs better closed it sounds like the carb needs a good cleaning. Try adjusting it first and see if you can improve it. Particularly the hi speed jet.
