Anybody have any experience with this baler and suggestions about value and problems of a used one? Looking to bale less than 50a/yr.

I have been using a JD 214 WS for about 10 years on about 20 acres of grass hay. If it is good shape, they still bale nicely. Provided you can get good wire. Many buyers prefer not to get wire now. My main complaint is that it works reasonably well with tight and straight windrows. Curving windows of loose, small straw will leave lots of hay on the ground. The knotter requires frequent cleaning other wise I will get knots that fail. I paid $1000 for mine.

I had a 214WS...traded some work for it, so I can't say much about $$$...off hand I'd say its not worth much...maybe a couple hundred dollars, unless you've happened to find an exceptionally good one. Look closely at the amount of wear on the drive, mine was worn to the point that I was afraid I'd strip the splines and be sitting with hay on the ground and broke down. If I were buying one....and wasn't just getting it for practically nothing...I'd take 3 or 4 bales of hay and spread them out and make sure it went thru the process and tied correctly...I doubt very much if those parts are still available from JD. Mine was a darn good baler...once I'd done some thinkering with it, made an excellent bale with good weight. What are they wanting for the one you're looking at?? JD will have the operators manual, and I'd suggest thats a "must have"...it goes thru the timing and the tying cycles...
