I have recently bought a 4010 diesel and I am converting it to a 12 volt system. I am wondering what a 4020 kit consists of? Everyone I ask about the tractor asks me if I have put a 4020 kit on it.

I would guess they are asking if it has the larger, 4020 sleeves and pistons in it. It came with a 380 cid engine, but the usual practice, when overhauling it was to install the larger sleeves, bringing the displacemnet to 404, and making the engine into a 4020 engine. I am betting there are very few 4010 diesel tractors with the original displacement anymore.

Is there any way to easily recognize this from the exterior ie. without having to mic out the bore.
