Hey gang, yesssss s I know this is a tractor site, BUT this is sort of a related question??? For years I have admired the old 3 wheel Harley Davidson Golf Carts used at Tracotr shows as they have class and style and really appealed to me for their nostalgic value. Well, after looking for 5 years and never expecting to find one at an auction, I found and bought one tonght just a couple hours ago and have a few questions Im sure someome can answer.

1) After lookign at in the daylight tomorrow underneath I will be able to tell in a few seconds, but I was thinking they are 2 cycle reversible engines which run in the direction the combination starter/generator happens to start them, which is how they run in reverse, is that correct????

2) Does anyone know the oil/gas mixture ratio they used, 16 or 32 or 50 to 1 etc.????? ??

3) Anyone know of a web site or forum page for Harley Davidson Golf Carts??? I will need a new piston and other parts to repair and restore it and Ive only got $140 in it so far.

Thanks to yall and God Bless

John T., I have worked on these. Yes the engine does run both ways, the switch reverses the current to the starter/generator. About the oil mixture, not sure. I do know that they were designed to run a short distance 250-300 yards, allow to cool briefly then run again. A lot of people just kept on running and this caused upper cylinder piston damages. They are a lot tougher to work on than the old deere's. The clutch assy is an area that they gave a lot of trouble. This is a sliding disc, type transmission deal. Lock up at a higher rpm to give road speed. Has oil in the unit. The moving part has roller and operates on a sliding sleeve. If you try to dissamble this be very cautious as the large spring can fly loose. In their day they were the Cadillac.

Thanks so much. I knew I could count on the good folks here to lend a helping hand. Thats why I use, enjoy and contribute to these boards whenever possible. The web site and its associated links revealed all sorts of info, pictures, specs and literature regarding my 1967 Harley Davidson Model D Golf Cart. Once restored mechanically, now I cant decide whether to paint it JD Green and Yellow or the Harley colors lol.

Thanks to you both and God Bless all who read and contribute to these message boards.

John T: Go to www.vintagegolfcartparts.com you should be able to find most everything you need there. I bought a used early 80's Yamaha cart last winter. It needed a little body work and of course got a new coat of JD Green and some decals. Sure looks good and is a blast to drive around the show grounds. Good luck with yours.

#2. Sorry, but I do not.

#3. Sorry, but I don't know this one either.

I have a freind with one and I am trying to get it from him. One day I will.

Good luck with the other questions.
