4010d still not running

I have a 4010d that seems to have serious problems. I posted earlier that it was running fine and I parked it overnight then it would not run right. It would start but not idle up right so I put new fuel filters in and bled the canisters afterwards. It took some cranking but it finally started and ran again, for a while (~2 hours.) I was pulling a disk and it acted like it started losing power then died. So I checked the filters and they were both already trashed. So I drained and cleaned the fuel tank put a new petcock in the bottom of it with a longer tank tube then cleaned all the fuel line up to the filters cleaned the filter housings replaced the filters and bled them again. Next I cleaned the line from the filters to the roosa-master injector pump. Still no start. I had 2 diesel mechanics (friends (cheap labor)) try and bleed the injectors because everyone I talked to (old farmers) told me that it was probably aired up. It still will not start and it doesn't seem to be getting a lot of fuel at the injectors. I know this is a long background but my question is about the primary fuel pump, could this be the source of my problems or is it more likely the injector pump? I'm not sure how much fuel should be coming out from here while cranking but both friends said it should be quite a bit. Is there a set volume or pressure to test this? Thanks in advance

if the filters were full of trash the 2nd time maybe the transfer pump is just full of trash too, it pulls straight from the tank, could be blocked at elbows etc,,, my 2 cents,,Bill

Jim, it could be the supply pump- but it probably isn't. It sounds like the metering valve in the injection pump is sticking to me. I have had this problem on three different pieces of equipment this year. My pump shop tells me it is caused primarily in older pumps due to the lower lubricity of low sulpher fuel thats avaible now. The fix is a complete teardown, cleaning, and inspection of the pump. I hope this helps, maybe some other folks can shed more light on the subject.
