Ok-
I'm looking for a guru...Here's a question, I've got a line a cheap JD 210. The 10 hp kohler is fried on this old Garden tractor, but cosmetics are actually quite good. It has a broken connecting rod, and the crank is bent, needs a battery, 3 new blades, etc. I want to put a new
motor in this thing, it has a 46 or, not sure, 48 inch deck. How big can I go for a replacement bolt on application? What about the kohler 16 HP? Will it fit? I figure I'll get it from Tulsa.

Can anyone help?

Joe

If money is important and the block is sound, you can rebuild the 10 hp pretty reasonably, at least as far as these things go. Cranks and cams are readily available if yours are bad, and you need to replace valves (usually), piston (usually), and rod(always) in an overhaul anyhow.

The other guys poinbted you in the right direction about repalcement engines. K-series 10-16 hp Kohler singles are interchangeable, and it's a big tall engine so you can probably replace yours with some other brand if you are willing to fabricate mounts and cobble the electrical connections.

I just did this with my 214, got the 16hp k-341 from a JD dealer. It bolted right in. I got a long-block, in fact, it had everything but the muffler and clutch, drive pulley assemble. I've heard if you get a K-341 from any source but John Deere, you have to change the oil pan because it is specifically made to fit the 200 series JD. The 200 series had a 46" mower deck.

The 210 was part of the 200 series including the 200 (8HP) 212 (12HP), 214 (14HP), and 216 (16HP). So yes you can go up to a 16 horse kohler as a replacement.

OK-

Now, does anyone know what the model no of the Kohler 16 hp was? The 10 horse was a k241 AQS Model No, 46785, I assume the 16 hp was a K341, but what model number was on the 200 series...or in this case the 216. Anyone?

Thanks!

Joe
