Axle seal on 47 GM

In process of installing new seals on the axles and i have a gruve on each axle.Only one axle was seaping not dripping other was dry.Are the new seals neupreem or are they leather.A speedy sleeve that size will be quite expensive.Thanks 36 A

36A. there aren't many leather seals out there anymore.. Maybe a few NOS seals in stock somewhere but not many used in service..

I did rear axle seals on a 37A a while ago & crossed the original seal size to an industry standard size & found a set of seals that had double lip seal lips.. Those double lip seals not only had a double lip but neither lip ended up on the original wear groove. I don't remember the seal numbers [should have written them down] but believe they either came from Federal Mogul or Detroit Ball bearing as I bought numerous seals & bearings from both places for that restoration.. Just take your old seal sizes & the old seal numbers & call around for double lip seals.. Even on single lip seals, some have the lips in slightly different locations so you should be able to find some seals that put the seal lips on an unused part of your axle shafts

Here lies the problem spent the money on all seals and wanting to put it together tonight.The seal slides on tight and has a little friction in the grove.The new seal is not as thick as the old ones .thanks Mark
