I have a line on a good looking 1010. I have seen and heard some people talk about the 1010, is it a bad tractor. I would use it to rake and light bush hog. The guys is looking for $2,500.00, not bad I think. What do you know ?

I have a '63 gas 1010RU. I am happy with the job it has done for me, but I can tell you that even the dealers bad-mouth 1010s in general. My dealer told me that the only J-D worse than a 1010 or 2010 gas is either one of them with diesel. I mostly bush-hog with mine. Probably the hardest work I have put it to is when I had ten triple-axle dump truck loads of fill dirt brought in and then spread and packed it all with the blade on the back of my 1010.

I don't like the brake locks on the 1010, but once I got the shaft seals replaced and got the oil off the brakes, they work well enough for my purposes. It would be nice if mine had power steering, but it doesn't have a lot of extra power and I'm not sure I would be as happy with the tractor if it was short on power after dedicating some to a steering pump. I paid $2250 for my tractor and am still happy with that deal.

If it's a later one with the shifter on the trans. top,you shouldn't have any problem. They had the bugs worked out by the later series. They are good little tractors,I have 3 of them 2gas,1 diesel.
