The base gasket on my 47A sucked in on me---I had the block off last year and resealed it fine with new gaskets---this year i did some more engine work ,reinstalled with everyhting from last year With new gaskets--after a few hours of plowing the base gasket started leaking. What would cause it to suck in? Thanks ---Jim

I use automotive weather strip adhesive and glue those big gaskets to the crankcase or one of the housings. The stuff works great for holding first reduction gear cover gaskets in place for assembly and also one valve covers. The only drawback is if you have to scrape the gasket off,its more work.

Yes, weatherstrip adhesive will definitely "stick" a gasket, lol. We refer to is as "yellow death" or "black death". I'm much more partial to spray High-Tack now, after having to chisel off way too many yellow-deathed gaskets.

G-MAN, there's some new words for my vocabulary "yellow death" or "black death". I have always referred to that yellow {Fast Tac} as "Gorilla Snot".. That stuff is a prime user in installing gaskets that tend to migrate on installation.. It seems as that stuff if the primary gasket holder for seasoned mechanics & restorers..
