JD unstyled A governor question

On the unstyyled A, why did they put the pivot point toward the middle of the arm instead of at the end? Most JD's have the pivot point at the end. Thanks Much,

They're the same on the early styled as well. Even sticks out from under the left battery cover on the long hoods. As for why? I always thought it was a leverage situation but could easily be wrong. My thought.... a given governor spring has more influence on the weights when it's tension is applied 3" (or so) to the left of the lever shaft than if the same spring's tension is applied .3" (or so) from the pivot point. The offset gives the spring a longer torque arm just like a breaker bar with cheater -VS- breaker bar alone. No proof here, never made any measurements either. Just always surmised this & could be all wet!
