I am having a real bear of a time with the charging system on my 8 horse 110. it has the delco system that I call the starternator-the generator acts as the starter, then when the key start is released the system reverts back to a 12 volt generator. It worked fine until the bearings failed on the shaft, so I had the generator rebuilt-it spins the engine over just fine and puts the charge light out, but after a few seconds the light winks back on and won't go back out-no charge!!! if any of you have had this problem and know the fix, I would sure be proud to hear from you what I need to do-also if any of you have a wiring diagram, that would be greatly appreciated too-thanks for your help-john deeres are the best!!!-jessie

i have a copy of the wiring diagram. what is your email address and i will send it to you. my address is

hamrdogATptdDOTnet

(AT=@ and DOT=.)

also, i have a 1966 110, and my charging light seems to stay on low almost all the time as well. sometimes it gets a bit brighter, and once in a while it goes out. it has done this since i got it about 7 years ago, and i think i am on my second battery. i think the small batteries don't last very long no matter what you do with them, and it seems to get charged when the tractor is running.

Was the armature damaged at all by rubbing on the polepieces when the bearings were out?

From what you describe, it sounds like you may have a damaged winding that shorts when the generator begins to warm up from charging.

If you have a voltmeter, try grounding the "F" (field) terminal at the generator and checking the output voltage at the "A" (armature) terminal on the generator. If the generator is working, there should be in excess of 13 Volts at the "A" terminal.

Try that, and post back with your results.
