This is on the top side of the mower deck and is belt driven. The pulley turns but the blade does not. The shaft is intact. There is a 1 1/8 nut holding the pulley to the shaft and I felt sure that tightening the nut would solve the prob. but no go. Can I weld the pulley to the shaft or must I buy a whole new pulley etc.

Have any of you had a similar problem?

Thanks to all and God Bless Joe M

Joe, Ive never owned that particualr mower and cant be sure, but from a ton of mowers Ive owned and how they worked, there could be a sheared off key which binds the pulleys hub to the shaft, and thats how the pulley could be turning but not the blade under it, unless the shaft itslef is broken. Many Ive owned are straight keys (not half moon) but either type are easily replaceable after you remove the top nut and pulley for an inspection. They may get sheared cuz either the shaft or pulleys key slot is worn due to the pulley being too loose and/or plain ole worn out. If the pulley hub has spun on the shaft, it and/or the shaft may be worn too much overdiameter to ever hold a key again. Also, its possible if they are sealed bearings pressed into a hub (like many mowers), the bearigns outer side has spun and worn the hubs and the hubs wont ever hold a bearign again.

Remove that top nut and see if there isnt a keyway (between pulley hub and shaft) and and if so, if the key is in place or sheared or the shaft is broken. I usually use thin shim washers as adjustments so the top nut exerts force n holds the pulley on tight but not so tight it puts too much pressure on the bearings.

Sorry if this dont cover your problem, but I took your post to mean the pulleyt turns but the blade under it doesnt????? ?

Good Luck n God Bless

John T
