Jeff,I had the same problem with my A a year ago, with Clooneys help I found one of the springs in the vane was broken. I replaced the springs and the problem was solved. Hope this helps.--- Harold

Jeff, I really don't know what to tell you.. The usual cause of those pumps pumping oil is a failed pump.. If the pump is good then you have a problem with either too much oil getting to the pump, or a improper oil drain back in the pump area, or an improper gasket installed.. Are both vane springs on good shape with good tension & is the vane in good shape? Any chance the gaskets are for the wrong pump? [can you compare the old to new gaskets].. Are all the parts back in correctly per that picture I sent you? Is the governor draining the oil back to the crankcase correctly?

~If you just can’t find anything wrong try installing new springs & vane..

~Where is all that oil coming from while only cranking?

The gaskets match the housings and were bought from Deere. I cannot find any problem with the oil draining back through the governor. Is there a possibility that my Oil Pressure gage is wrong and the oil pressure is way too high pumping excess oil???

I have installed a new pressure gage and found that the pressure is correct on my old gage. I thought the vane was moving in and out causing the spurt of oil to come out of the tube hole. As I see it with the governor removed it still spurts so that is not it. Do they make two different gaskets for the pump or maybe someone has changed out the Governor housing for a new or older style???? I again checked he parts against the book and they are within spec's.
Any help???

Had similar problem with my '51 B this past winter. She was spurting oil out the exhaust. I got the ventilator pump rebuilt and that fixed the problem. While going through all this I was told at my local Deere store that the ventilator was a primative attempt at crankcase ventilation. Years ago there was a service bullitan issued by Deere recommending removing the ventilator tube and putting a plug in the hole. I guess they were having a problem with the operator walking away, leaving the tractor running. Ventilator pump would fail, suck all the oil out and sieze the engine. I also had another old time retired Deere mechanic tell me the same thing. So I guess if you can't fix it, plug it.
