Jeff, I plowed 1 acre + this spring with my 47 M and the M2 (double plow made for the model M) and it did a great job. It really surprised me too!

Jeff I have a 1950 model "M" John Deere and use a two bottom 14 inch plow on it. The plow that I use was made for the "M" and "MT". It uses a power depth control and hooks on the drawbar. A lot will depend on your soil for the size you can pull.

I just bought a 2x14" plow for my 420 this spring and it's all that little tractor wants to handle in the southeast Indiana "clay" ground. I actually used it on the garden, which is in somewhat better shape than is typical around here. Anyway, the M is about 700 lbs. lighter and 9 HP less, so I would say that a 2x12" would be a pretty heavy load for it.

My guess is that an M could pull two 12 inch plows in most cases. Its rated at about 18 drawbar H.P. and weighs around 2500 pounds so its bigger than the very early B's and slightly smaller than the later B's. I used to pull two 12's with no problem with a late model B.
