John T, I'm sure you must have rebooted [with complete power down] by now, but if not, do so. Alt+F4 closes out any programs if you cannot see what is on the screen. Kinda sounds like a vido card problem, although I don't know why Internet Explorer would work OK. Fresh start might do the trick.

John T,
For all the help you give on here, I wish we could help you more. I know just enough to be dangerous. I think the other post is right, it's a matter of opinion on which anti-virus software to run. Sounds like you're doing the right things with keeping up with all the updates. Good luck! dwm

You might try reloading operating system if you an do that. If you can go to microsoft sight and get all the updates for your system that are available. There is some free virus scan stuff at Adaware(may be Adware).com. I have had some problems with Mc Afee but it may be like spark plugs, everyone has their favorite. I would think you have a corrupted file somewhere whether due to a virus or just a computer thing. Good luck. If you have access to another computer at a friends or even library ou might be able to get some ideas from microsoft(assuming you have windows)

Hope your problem is fixed by now. FWIW, I've found that Mcafee is the worst computer product I've ever seen. there is no real support and it slows your entire system down to the point it is worthless. I speak from experiencing both computers melting down last spring from a case of MyDoom. Good luck, buy Norton!

Doesn't ad aware products go after spyware instead of viruses? A computer needs antivirus, firewall and spyware protection.
