I have a 73 4230, this is my primary tractor. The hydraulics work fine, but after 1/2 hour or so the hyd pump starts making noise. I have checked the fluid level, and changed hyd oil and filters. Also, the 3pt hitch drops very quickly once the tractor is turned off. Other than that it is 100% at 9242 hours.
Advice would be very much appreciated. Jeff

SOUNDS LIKE THE THERMO RELIEF VALVE IN THE ROCKSHAFT VALVE HSNG IS LEAKING . WITH THE OIL HOT SEE IF YOU HEAR A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL FROM THE VALVE HSNG. IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED CONTROL ROD WILL DO THIS ALSO. CHECK THE PUMP DRIVE BOLTS AND BUSHINGE FOR WEAR AND TIGHTNESS. DON

check the pump drive for ware for thr 'pump noise' (you have to remove the drive to check it properly). the drop of the hitch is a different problem and it's repairible on it's own.
