My 1950 G doesnt have a fan shroud and neither does my grandfathers, or my brothers D. And I see them on ebay pretty often. I was wondering if they help or hurt cooling? I know they'll at least keep you from accidently sticking a finger in the fan, but I was wondering if people have taken them off for a reason. If they help, or at least dont hurt it any, I'm going to get one off ebay. I already stuck my thumb in the fan once, and I know better than that, but my tractor runs at 200 so I dont really want to do anything that'll make it get hotter. Thanks.

We got talking about it at the barn and was thinking the same thing, it oughta help cooling if anything. Just with all the ones I've seen removed, I thought I'd get some more opinions. Thanks.

Jeremy, I would think just the oposite. The fan shroud is suppose to force the air through the radiator fins, which should help dissapate the heat, and allow it to run cooler! In addition, it should help protect wayward fingers also!

Jeremy - I don't know for sure, but my guess is that the shroud will not make the temp. rise significantly if at all.

Although a small area along the edges will be somewhat restricted, the shroud will tend to increase air velocity and perhaps cause more air to flow over the perimeter of the radiator fins, which should help cool it even better.
