I recently unhooked my carb. selenoid and forgot to tape over the hot wire hanging down. It sparked on the frame of my 2020 and now it won't do anything when I try tostart it. No lights or nothing. I assume that the circut breaker clicked open but the manual said that the circut breaker closes after about a minute. I hasn't. What do I look at?

Joe:

The circuit breakers that I have come up against on a 4440 and my 855 do indeed reset after the excess load is removed. I believe they have an internal heater that as it draws current it heats a coil thatopens the breaker. When the load is gone, it returns to "set".

So, if you can find the particular circuit breaker and remove the load side wire, and then it resets and has power, you have found the problem (that is you still have a short). If no power, replace the breaker. They do go bad.

I agree Frank, a high overcurrent situation and/or corrosion/contamination can overcurrent and/or overheat the metal contactor sufficient to where they are not so good afterwards and dont reset properly. They are not super high quality expensive devices in the first place, but still usually peform their safety function regardless if they fail to reset afterwards. When someone tells me they found a bad fuse as the reason a circuit isnt working, I tell them NOOOOO O it was a good fuse, its now blown and did its job properly (a good fuse) lol. When I used to design secondary power distribution circuits, we had to run short circuit fault analysus to be concerned with the maximum failt current the substation could deliver and spec the maximum AIC ratign for our protection devices.

Take care my friend

I wouldn't sweat it! A new breaker is only $7.50!
