I read the previous posts about wheels stuck, and tried the suggestions without any success. I loosened both sides of the clamps, but can't get the half driven out with the 2 drive bolts, (it is seized on the axle) tried heat, driving the tractor around with bolts loose and jarring the brake, and it shows no sign of breaking loose. Been through several 3/4" drive sockets. Are there any other tricks I can try or am I going to have to take it to a shop where they have heavier tools to break the clamps loose from the axle. It looks as though the wheels were set at this setting when tractor was new and never adjusted. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Park the tractor with the wedge-lock bolts on top of the axle. Loosen the lock bolts several turns. (4 or 5 should do) Tighten the "release bolts". Use a big cheater bar. WITHOUT USING HEAT, hit the end of the axle as hard as you can, with a HEAVY sledge hammer. Tighten the three release bolts again. (using the cheater bar) hit the axle again. Repeat several times if neccissary. It will finally break loose. I've never ran onto one that couldn't be loosened. DO NOT USE HEAT! This is the directions you'll find in any Johd Deere manual..... SMACK IT WITH A SLEDGE HAMMER! John

Try hitting (WITH A SLEDGE HAMMER) the middle bolt of the 3 that you loosened on the wedge. Ifyou pound on the outer two, you will break the wedge, but you can get them from a salvage yard. Keep the pressure on the wedge with the two other bolts. I have not had this fail yet.

Thanks for the suggestions! I finally got it to break loose and ajust, I will have to replace the center bolt because it took quite a beating, but that is a small price to pay to finally get the wheel/clamp to break loose. That must have been the original setting, because after moving the wheel there was a lot of corosion in the slot separating the clamps. Thanks again for the help.

Hey 4010 owner, we went through this a few years ago on Dad's 4440, it wouldn't come loose with the 2 pusher bolts so I asked Dad about hitting the 3 pull up bolts for the wedge with a BIG sledge as someone else here suggested, Dad said "Go ahead" it took several HARD hits then BANG it came loose. DO 1 thing before putting it back together if you havent yet, go somewhere & get the gray colored Permatex "Never Seez" & clean the axle & wedge with a wire brush or wheel, then smear the never seez all over everything, it makes it a whole lot easier to break loose next time & we move the furrow wheel on the 4440 every fall for plowing.
