Just purchased this tractor, and the PTO runs continuously, it won't shot off. Where should I start looking, and what are the possible causes? Any help would be appreciated.

Before you split the tractor and you may have to,check the lever inside the cowling. There is a spring loaded stop button that is supposed to locate the lever in the neutral position. When you pull back on the lever from there the brake is applied.Sometimes that button gets frozen from rust and won't let you apply the PTO brake.Liberally apply some penetrating oil and work the button till it becomes free.It might take a while to get it freed up.

Had a 4020 if the same problem. Look under the dash at the linkages. They could be out of adjustment or in my case found that there's a little dog leg arm at the end of the cable that fastened to the control piston. This arm has two flat sides in the hole. If the nut becomes loose it will wear those flat sides round and thus it turns on the piston and you lose full range of that motion to engage the brake.

If it is turning WITHOUT much force it may be the PTO brake. Replacement of the PTO brake requires that the tractor be split BEHIND the clutch housing. There may be some linkage parts rusted and sticking under the dash console.

If it is turning WITH a lot of force, repair of the PTO clutch is likely needed. This requires a tractor split between the engine and the clutch housing.

Our 4020 turns constantly as well. It doesn't actually have any power, it's just "freewheeling". I usually just take the PTO shaft of the implement I wanna use and push it against the PTO until it stops and hook it up.

I wouldn't recommend doing this the first time as you might actually have a problem. Hook it to a piece of equipment that has a PTO shaft while the tractor is not running and then start the tractor. If the baler or whatever doesn't start running until you actually engage the PTO, you're fine. If the baler fires up too, then you have a problem.

Don't get me wrong but are you DUMB or plain stupid posting advise like that. You could get one of these hobbie farmers KILLED doing that . Have you ever saw what's left of a person thats been wrapped around a PTO shaft. You are just lucky not to have been hurt by pushing a pto shaft against a moving pto. If this guy know's nothing about tractors send him to a shop .

I've been around tractors and farm equipment all my life, and am not going to try that. This is my first 4010, and am trying to get a few leads on the problem before I tear into it to fix it. Thanks for the suggestions.
