I have a 1938 "G" serial# 8572.
The clutch won't stay engaged. It has the cam type of clutch. I read in the tech manual that it is possible to update it to the snap kind of clutch. I have a clutch from a newer "G", but the drive gear is wider and the clutch fork won't line up. What parts need to be changed from the old assembly to the new assembly?
Thank you for any help you can provide. John Nye

Mine was doing that and Clooney said to try not so tight--- it helped just tight enough to not slip---(they won't pop like the later ones) friend of mine changed his over from a later one ---need to change the main bearing housing then the wide gear will clear

John-We did that at one time 25 yrs ago- It will interchange but I think we changed everything from the new one to the old one, been a long time ago so everything I have learn since has taken the place of what I used to know (you know what CRS means) Bill

John, I think you are going to need the clutch parts from an updated unstyled "G" tractor.. I don"t have part numbers handy. I haven"t ever installed the later parts as I always just repair the cam clutch [sometimes it requires making new parts]..

It’s possible there is a Deere service bulletin on that cam clutch update to install the later [over center] parts [I vaguely recall seeing one ].. I will look at my service bulletins later tonight & get back with you unless someone posts the part numbers & procedure here first..
