Clooney,

Hope you can shed some light on a problem I'm having with a 1932 JD "GP". It has 3 forward gears and reverse. Frequently when i shift from 1 gear to another the tractor will not move because 2 gears are engaged at the same time. The most problem seems to be with the intermediate or 2nd gear. Not long ago this happened with someone unfamiliar with the problem and 2 gears had teeth broken off. I have another set of gears in the tractor and the problem persists. When I refer to the gear case parts breakdown I cannot find anything missing to cause this problem. Any suggestions!

Jim

Jim, I'm not much of a GP person as I haven't ever owned one & haven't even worked on one for over 20 years..

I am just familiar enough with that trans to guess you either have the wrong little shift quadrant, or yours is bent or missing some of the gate fingers, or you have a bent shift rod that is allowing it to pick up 2 gears at once, or there is something wrong with a shift fork or the little front shift arm.. I can’t remember if your trans has an interlock between the shift forks or not.. If it had/has an interlock that could be acting up, missing, or worn out & allowing both shift forks to move at the same time..

You might give Duane Larson an E-Mail [or maybe he will see this respond here] as he is real sharp on those GP’s..
