Duane,

Clooney refered me to you.Hope you can shed some light on a problem I'm having with a 1932 JD "GP". It has 3 forward gears and reverse. Frequently when I shift from 1 gear to another the tractor will not move because 2 gears are engaged at the same time. The most problem seems to be with the intermediate or 2nd gear. Not long ago this happened with someone unfamiliar with the problem and 2 gears had teeth broken off. I have another set of gears in the tractor and the problem persists. When I refer to the gear case parts breakdown I cannot find anything missing to cause this problem. Any suggestions!

Jim

Jim,
I've not had a problem like your's with my GP's. The gears must not be properly lining up, and this could be caused by the gear shift fork shaft not being aligned - there is an adjusting screw on the end of the shaft. The stop pin tubes must be tight - they are wired in on mine, and the detent balls must be functioning. Other than that, there may be something bent, or installed incorrectly. Is it possible to find another GP and have a look at their shifter system?

You might also go to www.johndeeregp.com and contact Paul or Michael Ostrander - perhaps they have run into your problem.
