'50 Model B Clutch Confusion.......

My '50 model B is giving me fits with the clutch. At first, I thought I had an adjustment problem, so I tightened the three nuts on the outer clutch plate. That worked fine for a while. Now the thing has gotten to the point that it is very difficult to dis-engage at all. The next thing I tried was adjusting the linkage length, because I thought I was not able to pull it back far enough. Now I can pull it way the heck back, but the only thing that will stop the drum from spinning is the brake pad itelf. I know I am missing something-probably something obvious, but I can't figure out wether I just adjusted something wrong, or maybe I need to stick some new clutch pads in.... Any tricks for this out there?

-Many thanks from a frustrated novice!

Jeffro, try adjusting the pulley brake up tighter. If that pulley brake is not set up tight enough on the "B" the clutch will start to re-engage again when you pull the hand lever harder to the rear..

If the pulley brake adjustment doesn’t help post back & we’ll dig a little deeper [usually the brake adjustment will do it though]….
