The hydraulic pump on my 3020D is leaking quite badly, near the top where I cannot get a good look at just where it is leaking from. I am in the process of tearing it out now. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these pumps, what generally goes bad with them, are they easily rebuildable or would I be better off getting a new / rebuilt unit, what is a good source for a new or rebuilt unit?

Thanks!

I had a leak in mine and found that the short hose from the oil cooler to the pump was leaking. I replaced the hose and o-rings and the clamps. That fixed that leak. I had to replace my pump due to leak from drive end. JD dealer mached the price I got from Worthington for a rebuilt pump. Cost around 900.00. Took about 8-10 hours to change it. If you change it out be sure to check ALL the plugs to be sure they are tight before you install it. Couple of them are very hard to get to after its in there.

Take a good look at the 2 o rings that seal the top hose fitting that attaches the pump to the oil cooler. They are notorious for springing leaks. You will think they are too small in diameter but they are not.Could also be a top piston plug leaking and as the other poster said look very closely for cracks, especially in the piston plug holes of the pump housing.Look over all suspect o rings for any damage or chaffing.

I can only relate to what happened to mine several years back. After I got it out, I found the main pump body casting had developed a hairline crack. Replaced with with a rebuilt unit - $$$'s. Have not a clue as to why it cracked.
