I have a problem with the coolant leaking around the manifold studs on my 35 A. I'm not sure if it's coming up around the studs or if the top of the head is pitted so bad that it leaks. I've used antiseeze on the bolts when installing manifold and poured black pepper along with barsleak in radiator. It still leaks. I did notice the top of the head where the manifold mates is pitted pretty bad. I did try and fill some of the pits with jb weld. I might go back and fill the others with it as well. Will jb weld work ok with this much heat between the head and manifold gasket? Any other helpful suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Another question, after posting this I did buy some permatex hi tack that's rated for up to 500 F. Will it be hotter than that down in the head around these studs? It said it was leak proof for antifreeze, glycol, and other petroleum products.

51 G, The last G I had done the same darn thing. I cleaned n wire brushed and used a lil JB weld and it helped for a while, but thats just a band aid approach and wont last indefinitely. When I install new studs I put pipe thread sealer thoroughlly on ones that go down into a water jacket/passage but if she leaked a long time and also leaked exhaust gasses shes probably pitted n burned out in which case you may have to have BOTH the manifold as posted below PLUS the head planed down smooth??

JB weld will work. The correct way to do it would be to take the head off and have it re surfaced.

The manifold bolts go down into the water jacket. You need to use a sealant on the bolts to stop the water leak.
