Put as simply as possible, if your system is working, but just needs the voltage regulator set-point raised:

1.) Disconnect the battery, for safety.

2.) Carefully remove the cover from the voltage regulator.

3.) Locate the voltage regulator unit. It will be the coil wound with the lightest gauge wire.

4.) VERY SLIGHTLY increase the spring tension on the armature (hinged lever that has points on one end) of that coil. Older units had an adjusting screw for this, newer units require bending of the stationary "hook" the sprig attaches to.

After making a TINY increase in the spring tension, put the cover back on the regulator, re-connect the battery, start the engine, and after a warm-up and charging period, chaeck the battery voltage again.

Repeat the whole process, if necessary.

Just BE CAREFULL, and only adjust a TINY bit at a time.

Spend a few bucks for a new 12V regulator, the old one maybe getting tired by now anyways. You cannot tweek a 6V regulator to double it's factory design control band. For an odd jobs tractor or cool weather operation. Set the regulator to 14.2V measured at the battery at fast idle speed. 13.8V for hot weather or long duration usage.

You can clean contacts on spring loaded levers on top of copper coils. If that doesn't work, run a piece of emery cloth on the generator armature commutator. [ where the brushes run ] while running. Try not to short out brushes with a screw driver.
