I was wondering what lubes the valve train, and what the grease zerk is for on the right side of the block? I will probably have more questions in the future, as we are just getting started on this. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

jlh,
The valve train is lubricated by the mixture of oil and kerosene in the reservoir located in the top rear of the block. There are two bolts which hold on a cover plate - remove those and you will see the reservoir. There is a small drain plug on the side of the block used to drain it (it may have been replaced with a grease zerk?). It is to be filled with "1 1/2 pints, consisting of three parts engine oil and one part kerosene". The cavity is also where the tappets are adjusted.

The owners manual for the GP is very good about providing information relevant to operation and overhauling the tractor, and the parts list should also be obtained. There is a service manual, which covers the D, GP, and Model E hit and miss engines. Post back if you need info about any of these manuals.
