I am in the finishing stages of restoring my 520 and when I start it, it turns the wheels to the left. Does anyone know how I can bleed some air out of the system or do whatever it will take to correct this problem?

I think CLW met to say, back out the four 3/8" bolts holding steering valve housing to the steering worm housing and adjust forward or rearward to center steering valve to worm actuator as he correctly described. The worm housing is held to steering post with four 1/2" bolts and there is no need to disturb these to make the adjustment CLW described. Good Luck, DW

Jim, raise the front wheels just off the ground. Back the four bolts holding the worm gear housing off just enough that you can move it back or forward with light taps of a hammer. With the engine running tap it back and the wheels will move one way, forward the other. Move it until the wheels are centered and stay there. Thighten bolts. Job done.

Just want to thank CLW for the good advise and quick response. It was a 10 minute job, once I knew where to start. If we ever meet, I'll buy the ice cream cones.

Thanks again,
Jim

This time I'll thank both of you guys. After having the steering gear apart earlier this summer to take out some shims that allowed me to tighten the bearing clearances and seeing the internals, I just needed the info that CLW provided. The housing with the 4 half inch bolts is also doweled, so it didn't take much concentration to figure out what was adjustable and what wasn't.

Thanks again,
Jim
