the 730 I worked on had the taper lock flywheel. I don't know that they made a taper lock off a regular flywheel as it has bolt compression areas but I may be mistaken.

properly installed these work great. It uses the same type compression wedge as used on high powered equipment. Most people have problems as they do not install properly, like anything else.

I am aware of two types one is made from an original fylwheel that still has the bolts in it and the nuts are welded holding it in place for machineing of the taper, the other which is stronger is a whole new casting made just for a taperloc only. I see alot of people selling these and I would suspect they all come from the same source/manufacturer which I have always wondered but have no proof that it is Allen Machine Works in Tennesse. Try an old phone # 423-753-5738

I talked to Dave @ Allen Machine Works today. I am in search of a flywheel for a 70 diesel. The price he quoted was $525 plus shipping. We did not discuss the rebuild existing flywheel route because mine is cracked. He also indicated that he supplies several "dealers" with these taper-locs. I talked it over with my uncle tonight and I will be placing the order first thing in the morning. After 12 to 14 years of sitting, I can't wait to hear the old 70 run again. Maybe if I'm real lucky, the flywheel will arrive before Christmas!
